Every time you open a word document, picture, or movie it always saves in recent history. Then when you go to start > documents, a list of all your recent files come up. I know how to delete this history, but is there a way to prevent it from saving in the first place?

Cajun Food History – Why Cajuns Live to Eat, not Eat to Live

Dianna Smith asked:

There is nothing ordinary about Louisiana dishes and the robust flavors of Cajun Food History.  The past mixtures of Cajun and Creole foods have blended into the jazzy delights of today.

The heritage of Cajun food history began as far back as the 1700’s.  The Indian natives and the Arcadians, an exiled group from Canada, began the rich history of the bayous and rural Southern Louisiana

All of the settled immigrants including Germans, French, English, Creoles, Africans, and Mexicans all played a part in developing this full-bodied Cajun cuisine.

Creole people had a more aristocratic heritage from England and all but shut out those that did not share their birthright.  The settlers found a new home in the prairies and bayous and became well versed in the art of survival.

Cajun food history came together as a varied way of living off the land. The more refined Creole peoples remained in the city and enjoyed a more rich and elegant menu of many choices.  Cajun people were poor and made homes in rural areas and deep in the marsh and swamps of Louisiana.

Initially, Cajun food never inspired a second thought and was rather ordinary.  Poor immigrants simply had to “make do” with the cheapest foods and had no access to complimentary spices.

As more settlers came to southern Louisiana, the immigrants melded together with each ethnicity lending their unique spirit and spices to their somewhat bland food and turned around their poorly defined menu into what became Cajun Food with a “kick.”

A mixture of all ingredients in one pot became the staple of great Cajun food history.  This flavorful type of cooking branched out into the southern states with each creating a new take on old recipes.

Settlers continued to move along throughout the south taking a piece of Cajun food history with them. Red beans and rice in Louisiana became peas and rice, or “hoppin john” in South Carolina while in Florida a different rendition of this dish became known as black beans and rice.

Many years later, derived from Cajun food history brought about new menus of “Southern Hospitality.”  The same main ingredients prepared in various ways.

Traditional Cajun food and recipes have been passed down and we continue to take pleasure in these “one pot” dishes melded with the goodness of Cajun food history.

Islamic History

history
Nawaz asked:

In spite of volumes of literature on the subject, a vast majority of Muslims young and old are ignorant of Islamic history. Yet the importance of the knowledge of history cannot be overemphasized. According to Allama Iqbal, history is like long term memory where the voices of nations are preserved. So a people without knowledge of history are a people without memory. And people who cannot remember, obviously cannot benefit from the lessons of history. The Quran demands that muslims reflect upon history not merely to know it but to learn from it. By studying history, Muslims can gain an understanding of how Allah Almighty laws work in the extended lives of nations. The rise and fall of empires is not random nor does God preordain the fate of nations. Rather it is the actions of nations that cause their downfall; when the people fail to uphold the laws of society that Allah Almighty has set forth in Quran. This is why God repeats and reminds us of the history of past nations throughout in the book of Islam. So we can learn from them, if we repeat their mistakes (pointed out by the Quran) we will suffer similar consequences. It is hard to blame non muslim nations which historically go through a process of political and economic trial and error without the (Quranic) solutions manual. But what can be said of Muslims who have thrown this solutions manual behind their backs and thus continue to be buffeted by humiliation and degradation. The focus of this article is to look through history of Islam for answers of all questions confronting the Muslim Nation in the past and today. What caused (and continues to cause) the downfall of muslims, what did Quran mean when he said that Muslims can be the leading nation! What does the Quran mean in claiming that no one can defeat muslims and how reliable are our historical records are? These are important questions we need to keep in mind.

History of Capitola, California

Seb Frey asked:

The history of Capitola, California is rich with stories and history. The city is constructed on the site the Soquel Indians dwelt upon for over 1,000 years. The Soquel were transferred to the Mission in Santa Cruz. There is virtually nothing left that bespeaks of the once thriving Indian culture of the Soquel. The area has been known for dealing with several floods over the last century and a half.

It was named as a tribute to the famed novels by E.D.E.N. Southworth by Lulu Hall Wolbach. The heroine of the book was name Capitola. Lulu was the daughter of the city’s founder, Samuel A. Hall. She spent a period of time as a teacher to the Soquel before their sojourn to Santa Cruz. Samuel A. Hall leased the area in 1869 from a developer, Frederick Hihn, who had worked hard to promote the development of the area. The area looked to have a lot of potential in Hall’s eyes and he struck out to make it a prosperous place. A camp was opened in 1874 on Independence Day. At first, the Halls pitched tents for guests that ran along a simple dirt path. The Santa Cruz-Watsonville Railroad assisted greatly with bringing visitors into the area.

Once the area was on its way to success, Hihn took full control. He set about dividing property into lots that were first sold in 1882 for summer dwellings. The camping area evolved into a hotel equipped with 160 rooms to accommodate guests. The hotel was essentially a vacation spa with warm baths of salt-water. When World War I was over, Hihn’s daughter as his heir began to sell pieces of the estate. Hihn had passed away previously in 1913.

A speculator, Henry Allen Rispin, saw the potential of the area to become a modernized refuge from everyday life. His plans involved building a golf course, redoing the Esplanade, and building the Venetian Courts. Rispin was assaulted by financial difficulties, and after a series of foreclosures beginning in 1927 he left behind his estate at the inception of The Depression Era in 1929.

In the following decades the residents of the city worked together to make the city their own. It was the third city to be established in Santa Cruz County in 1949. It went from existing as a village to a city at that time. It is believed that the history of Capitola, California involves it being the oldest resort still in operation in the state.

The city is thought to be the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s famed masterpiece, “The Birds.” Birds had descended upon the area in 1961 and launched an attack. The breed of birds that became aggressive is known as Sooty Shearwaters. Hitchcock frequented the area for visits and was mesmerized by the idea of birds attacking humans when he read about the incident. During the 1970’s and 80’s the area became host to a skateboard competition. It involved a yearly race downhill. World class skaters were attracted and participated in the event.

The History Of Hypnosis - How Did It Start?

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008
history
John Howard asked:

Contrary to what many people think, the history of hypnosis dates back a long time in history. In fact historical references point out to hypnosis being part of ancient cultures in places such as Egypt. There are many historical references which point to the ritual of inducing a hypnotic trance which has been part of the Egyptian as well as many other societies since ancient times.

The history of hypnosis is full of interesting developments over a long period of time. For instance you can find that during the 16th century hypnosis was used for controlling unruly farm animals. Then there are instances of many travel shows trying to draw crowds using hypnosis during the 16th and 17th centuries. Many farmers were to known to use hypnosis in order to control chickens which were used for either slaughtering or farming purposes. Hypnosis has known to be an integral part of many religions around the world throughout the history.

There were several prominent hypnotists who have had powerful influences, throughout the history of hypnosis. One of the early as well as well known names is that of Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer, from whose name the word ‘mesmerism’ originated. His techniques of hypnosis involved using things such as using a combination of magnets, playing harmonica and even singing in order to induce a hypnotic trance in people. He was the one who made hypnosis well known in many parts of the world in the 18th century.

Another famous person who had influenced the spread of hypnotism during the 18th century was Dr. James Esdale. He is known to have operated several patients without causing pain through the successful use of hypnotism. It was during his time that hypnosis therapy began to create a curiosity around the world. Sigmund Freud, who is considered a master in human psychology, is known to have studied hypnosis in detail too.

The history of hypnosis is full of instances of several pioneers who used hypnosis for treating a wide variety of behavioral problems and phobias. One good example for such a personality is Milton H. Erickson, who is known to have used hypnosis therapy in order to work with patients having behavioral problems. He was among the first hypnotists to realize the therapeutic usage of hypnosis therapy. It was around his time that people began to get aware of hypnosis as something more than just entertainment. Thanks to the pioneering efforts of these early practitioners of hypnosis, its fame spread around the world and continues to flourish till this day.
