Jonny Propaganda asked:

I’m too young for any similar events in my own life and currently can’t think of one from history where (victorious) forces have to police their defeated enemy to prevent collapse and fallout consequences. Please, without (too many partisan) oppinions, have there been similar situations? What was the outcome? Thanks.

Where Does Italian Food History Begin?

Abdrew Krause asked:

Italy is one of the oldest countries in the world, and thanks to the geographical boundaries of the Mediterranean Sea and the Alps it has remained largely unchanged throughout history. Even during the Roman Empire, Italy was set apart. Legions that had been abroad always knew when they had returned to the mother country. Italian food history, however, reaches far beyond the country’s borders.

For starters, look at pasta. There is much historical debate on its origins, but many historians point to Marco Polo’s voyages to the Far East, from which he returned with all manner of foreign spices and foods, as the venue from which pasta came. The Chinese had cooked with noodles for centuries, and Marco Polo’s men encountered the same on their travels.

The tomato, now considered a staple in Italian cuisine, was long thought to be poisonous, partly because it is related to the deadly nightshade plant. Other Europeans found it to be palatable long before the first Italian cook simmered some down to make tomato sauce.

The Greeks, neighbors and frequent military rivals of the Italians, had a great amount of influence on Italian cuisine, especially in the area of spices and the preparation of seafood. Calamari, or squid, now a common dish on every Italian restaurant menu, was originally something Greeks were known for consuming.

The Roman Empire’s excursions into North Africa were another fertile breeding ground for culinary expansion. The number of herbs, spices and vegetables that entered the Italian menu from Egypt and the other African territories is uncountable.

Even today, Italian food history continues to evolve. Much of the changes now, though, take place beyond the shores of Italy. In America, for example, chefs like Mario Batali have fused classic Italian dishes with American cuisine to come up with dishes that combine the best of both worlds. In cities and towns all over the country, chefs are taking traditional ingredients and combining them in new ways. In what could perhaps be called a “full-circle” journey for pasta, some Italian-Asian fusion restaurants are even beginning to evolve.

But perhaps the best way to get a full idea of Italian food history is to get out and eat some. Better yet, eat a lot! Eating Italian food is always better than Italian food history.

The Fascinating History of Hypnosis

Alison White asked:

Those who have undergone hypnosis often recall events from the past that they previously had no memory of whatsoever, and this technique is often used to bring up repressed thoughts and emotions in order to help a person overcome certain fears or other problems. Taking a look at the history of hypnosis is both fascinating and educational as well.

Humble Beginnings: A Brief History Of Hypnosis

The Hindus in India are said to be the originators of the history of hypnosis by using it as a health tool in which they would take those who were ill within their village to a placed called a sleep temple. Likewise, this practice was used in Greece and Egypt as well. The ancient Sanskrit in a book called the Law of Manu spoke of different states of hypnosis; the “sleep-waking” state, the “dream-sleep” state, and the “Ecstasy-sleep” state. Inductions which were hypnotic in nature were used to lull as person into a sleep state in order to heal them of their sickness or disease.

In the late 1700’s, a man named Franz Mesmer became the first Western scientist to become involved with hypnosis and started researching an effect called “animal magnetism” or “mesmerism,” which is a word still used today. He believed that this power resided inside of humans and animals and used magnetic force as a tool in treating people. In what some consider to be the first placebo-controlled trial study, Benjamin Franklin conducted a trial to test the magnetic theory, and it was determined that mesmerism was only used by the imagination. Within the history of hypnosis, magnetic therapies are still around today as one form of alternative medicine, yet Mesmer himself died obscurely in 1815.

Formal psychological study of hypnotism began to be studied in the 1800’s by a neurologist named Jean-Martin Charcot who prescribed this treatment for hysteria.

He also opened the way in the history of hypnosis for its use in multiple personality disorders as well. This approach is still used today in order to help treat those who suffer with hearing voices, as it can help to sort out and relive these problems.

History of Kenya

history
Maggie Nguyo asked:

Kenya is in the South Eastern part of Africa, flanked on the South by Tanzania, to the West by Uganda and to the North by the Sudan and Ethiopia. Kenya’s Eastern side to the North forms a border with Somalia and to the South consists of the beautiful Kenyan beaches that are lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Over the centuries, we can trace the history of Kenya as far back as 2,000 BC. African tribes migrated from the North, West and South to populate the fertile grounds of the Kenyan Highlands creating a melting pot of languages and cultures in Kenya. Over the last 1500 years, the migrations have largely been by nomadic pastoralists who settled near water and rich feeding grounds for short periods of time until it was time to move on and look for greener grass. Bantu, Nilote and Hima peoples all came here. Today’s descendants are largely from the Bantu tribes, the Kamba, and the Kikuyu settled in the highlands to the North, while the Taita and other clans occupied the coastal areas to the South. Later, in the 17th century, Maasai clans migrated to the central plains.

The history of Kenya has not only been influenced by African tribe migrations. Due to its coastal location, Kenya has been subject to foreign invasions from Persians and Arabs throughout its history, leaving behind a strong Arabic influence. In fact the Swahili language, which is spoken in Kenya today, derives both from Bantu and Arabic. When Vasco da Gama discovered Kenya along the sea route to India in 1498, the Portuguese flocked to the area, hoping to dominate trade with India by the same token. Subsequent wranglings over trade in the Indian Ocean subjected Kenya to struggles with British, Dutch and Omani powers until it finally fell under the British Empire.

But it was the plantation system, established during the colonial period, that really helped Kenya develop economically and establish its independence. Brought to Kenya hundreds of years earlier from Ethiopia, Coffee crops became really important to Kenya’s economy in the 1900s. Over the last one hundred years, coffee and tea have become two of Kenya’s major exports. Today the plantations provide job security for Kenyans. Kenya is the world’s third largest tea producer. There is a good chance that your cup of tea has its origins in the fertile highlands of Kenya. Get Condensed Information From a German History Timeline

Beth Howard asked:

A German history timeline will give you facts about important events that have taken place in Germany since it was first settled in prehistoric times. The timeline is divided into sections, with each section taking in anywhere from 100 to 800 years. You will find the most concise details about the history of the country in the most recent centuries, which is why there is such a difference in the segments of the time line. From this information you will learn that Germanic tribes appeared in Germany during the Nordic Bronze Age between 1000 B.C. and 500 B.C. Julius Caesar invaded this area in 57 B.C., which is the period of the Gallic Wars. By 8 B.C., the various tribes had formed a Confederation.

There were many battled fought during the course of German history and you can learn the names of these battled by consulting a timeline. These include:

- The Battle of the Teutoberg Forest in 9 A.D.

- The Battle of the Wesier River in 16 A.D.

- The Batavian Rebellion in 69 A.D

- The Battle of Tolbiac in 496 A.D.

The consecration of Popes plays an important role in the history timeline of this country as well. Pope Boniface was consecrated in 530 A.D. but during the Crusades from the 11th to the 13th centuries, the number of Popes coming from Germany really increased especially in the 11 the century. There were five German popes in this century alone. From looking at a timeline, you will also learn about the rules of Germany, such as Frederick 1 Barbarossa in 1152 and Rudolph 1 in 1273. The years between 1000 and 1500 were turbulent times for Germany as you will see from the treaties signed during this period. The 16th century gave rise to Martin Luther and his 95 Theses, which essentially cause a great deal of turmoil for the Roman Catholic Church, not only in Germany, but in other parts of Europe.

During the early part of the 17th century, Germany was engaged in the Thirty Years War and in the War of Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War in the 18th century. Learn when Johann Sebastian Bach was born, as well as Mozart, Beethoven and other famous artists and composers simply by looking at a timeline.

On a timeline of German history, the 19th century deserves a section of its own because of the many events that took place during these years. It is not just events of historical importance that you will find in this type of document, but anything that has a bearing on the history of the country. For example, you will find that The Brothers Grimm published their first collection of fairy tales in 1812 and that the first gasoline automobiles were invented by Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler in 1885.

Throughout the 20th century, Germany was involved in two World Wars and suffered devastation as a result of both of them. The German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany were created in 1949 and the Berlin Wall was built to separate them in 1961. This wall fell in 1989 and Berlin was named the capital of a new united Germany.

The place I’m wanting to buy from is known for their “guaranteed credit approval”. But, how much of a work history is usually required? The owner told me he financed a girl that just graduated college and hadn’t even found a job yet.
Does it really look good to the bank if you have a down payment?
